Regarding the point of why program producers do not publicly
complain about what logos do to thier creations, I offer the following
simplified scenario:
=============================================================
Program creator: Why are you putting this stupid logo over my program? It ruins my work!
Network: Tough, live with it, and if you complain publicly you'll never sell another series to anyone again.
======================================================
I expect the actual conversations were less direct, but I can think of no other circumstances under which program producers would keep silent on the issue. I actually wonder what kind of flak Matt Groening took for the described Simpsons couch gag. I'd be curious to see if that episode is out in syndication intact, but I doubt it. I'd expect Fox to require that the gag be destroyed/replaced on all copies as a condition of being allowed to continue drawing paychecks.
